Nail salon POS hardware: use what you have.

A tablet and a browser are enough to start. Here is everything else that works, in plain terms, with no hardware to buy from us.

  • Scanner
  • Cash drawer

The front desk kit, piece by piece

Required: a tablet or computer. Recommended for most salons: a receipt printer and cash drawer. Optional: barcode scanner and label printer for retail, and the card reader from your processor.

Required

Tablet or computer

Any iPad, Android tablet, Windows PC, Mac or Chromebook with a modern browser. Most salons use one tablet at the desk.

Known to work: Apple iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, any Windows or Mac computer

Optional

Receipt printer

80 mm thermal receipt printers with network (Ethernet or Wi-Fi) or USB connection. Print from the browser or via a small print helper on a computer.

Known to work: Epson TM series, Star Micronics TSP series and similar

Optional

Cash drawer

A standard cash drawer that connects to the receipt printer (RJ11/RJ12 kick-out) and opens when a cash sale prints.

Known to work: Most printer-driven drawers

Optional

Barcode scanner

USB or Bluetooth scanners that act as a keyboard work straight away for retail checkout and stock counts.

Known to work: Zebra, Honeywell, Socket Mobile and similar

Optional

Label printer

Print barcode labels for products that arrive without one, such as gift sets or house-brand oils.

Known to work: Zebra, Brother and DYMO label printers

Card payments go through your own payment processor. Use the reader your processor supplies; GetSpaPOS records the payment and the tip.

Known to work: From your processor (ask on your demo)

Brand names are given as typical examples so you can recognise compatible equipment; we are not affiliated with these manufacturers and do not sell their products.

Hardware questions, answered.

  1. Salon ownerWhat hardware does a nail salon POS need?
    GetSpaPOS

Only a tablet or computer with a browser is required. Most salons add a receipt printer and cash drawer, and those selling retail add a barcode scanner. Card payments use the reader from your payment processor.

  2. Salon ownerDo you sell hardware?
    GetSpaPOS

No. We tell you what works so you can buy from any supplier, or use what you already own. That keeps the price honest and the choice yours.

  3. Salon ownerWill my existing receipt printer work?
    GetSpaPOS

Most 80 mm thermal printers do. Tell us the model on your demo and we will confirm.

  4. Salon ownerWhich card reader should I buy?
    GetSpaPOS

The one your payment processor supports. Ask your processor first, then ask us to confirm the setup on a demo.

  5. Salon ownerCan I use a phone as the POS?
    GetSpaPOS

Yes, for quick checkouts and checking the turn list. A tablet at the desk is more comfortable for a full day.

  6. Salon ownerDo I need a scale?
    GetSpaPOS

Salons rarely do. Scales are supported for businesses that sell by weight, such as a spa shop selling loose bath salts.

  7. Salon ownerWhat about the internet?
    GetSpaPOS

GetSpaPOS runs online. A reliable connection plus a phone hotspot as backup is enough for most salons.
